Touring Kayaks

Touring kayaks are sturdy enough to take on sea kayaking trips.

If you’re planning on going on long distance kayaking trips, then you should probably look into touring kayaks. There are several different types of touring kayaks, so depending on the type of kayak tour you’re thinking of going on, there are different choices for you.

The most common type of touring kayaks are day-trip kayaks. These are generally smaller boats and are also known as recreational kayaks. These boats are also usually somewhat cheaper than the other types of kayaks. These are the right kayaks for you if you’re not sure how much time you intend to spend on kayaking in the future. They are also good boats for beginners, or if you are planning on going on smaller kayaking trips.

The other type of touring kayak is a multi-day trip kayak. These are designed so that you can take them on longer kayaking trips. Depending on the type of trip you’re planning on going on, however, there are different sizes of multi-day trip kayaks. These touring kayaks are also sometimes referred to as “sea kayaks” since most people who are going on long kayak tours will be going out to sea.

These kayaks tend to be larger and built to be more sturdy than regular recreational kayaks. As a result, they are easier to use if you are out at sea, and are less likely to capsize in adverse weather conditions. Most of these multi-day trip kayaks also have added features which make them easier to maneuver if you’re in rougher seas. For instance, most have skegs and rudders, which will make it easier for you to go where you want to instead of where the sea wants to take you.

Most touring kayaks, especially the multi-day trip kayaks, have large bulkheads where you can store camping equipment, food, or extra clothing. One thing that you should check before you buy a kayak is that the bulkhead will be large enough for you to fit everything you need to bring with you. You should also make sure that you keep track of how much weight you’ll be adding to it – the last thing you want to do is drag your kayak down in the water with heavy equipment. Most camping gear stores sell lightweight equipment, however, so this should not be too much of a problem.

Most touring kayaks are made out of plastic or fiberglass. This is so that the kayak shell will be able to take a pounding from the waves without springing a leak or capsizing. Therefore, if you are looking into getting a touring kayak, you should plan on buying a plastic or fiberglass kayak. You should also consider how long your trip is going to last, as well, since the longer it will be and the rougher the water you’ll be traveling over, the larger size kayak you should be looking at.
